Around 25% of people will suffer from some kind of mental health problem in their life. That means there is a strong likelihood that we will all come into contact with someone who is experiencing a problem at some point in time. Some mental health concerns are at a level whereby people can still continue to live, socialise and communicate in spite of their struggles whilst other mental health illnesses are more severe and require ongoing support from highly qualified professionals. In addition, early neurological problems can also appear on the surface to echo many of the issues we see in mental health issues. Therefore, practitioners working in mental health require awareness of the more severe conditions in order to redirect their clients when problems arise that are outside of their skillset.

Talking to someone about their mental health, especially when they lack insight, is incredibly challenging. I hope that in this video you learn some ways to have a conversation with someone that you have concerns about.
